PIUMA and CHIARO Nanoindenter Training

The Optics11 Life Pavone nanoindenter training is focused on providing all the knowledge needed to use your Pavone high-thoughput nanoindent and designing experimental protocols of indentation on various samples.

During the course, you will start by learning about the basics of indentation such as find-surface procedures and signals (piezo, load, indentation, cantilever bending). Then, you will be introduced to probes and learn how to select the right one for your experiment in terms of stiffness and tip radius, and calibration steps. Next, various indentation modes will be introduced (static and dynamic, open and closed-loop) together with the background into the mechanical behavior of biomaterials such as elasticity, plasticity, viscoelasticity, nonlinearity and adhesion, and appropriate data analysis. Finally, the combination of PIUMA and CHIARO with imaging will be discussed together with the best sample preparation practices. After this course, you will be ready to start the investigation of the mechanical phenomena of your biomaterials.
